Jennifer L.R. Dear KIAA, Kangaroos are an endangered species. They should not be eaten. Eating kangaroos is a huge threat to the whole kangaroo population. This web site should be destroyed, all it does is encourage people to eat and kill the precious and endangered species.
Dear Jennifer, I thought I'd start this letters section off with a reply to your concerned although grossly misinformed letter. Since I couldn't respond directly to you as you didn't send me your e-mail address, I can only do so through this section. Firstly the kangaroo industry only harvests the seven most common species of kangaroos (there are 48 species in total) and none of these is anything like endangered. In fact the total estimated population of these species is close to 30 million and has been consistently increasing for the last 2 decades. This actually makes kangaroos probably the most common large wild land mammal on earth, far from endangered. The kangaroo industry actually helps ensure kangaroo don't become endangered. It's only because of the commercial harvest that the Australian Government survey the kangaroo population every year to estimate changes in response to seasonal conditions so they can set sustainable harvest quotas. These surveys and extensive scientific work associated with determining the population size, mean that we know more about kangaroos than we do about any other Australian animal. This information and monitoring will ensure the kangaroo population is always strong and healthy. I agree with you Jennifer that kangaroos are precious, they are a magnificent animal. They are perfectly adapted to our environment. It is the hope and dream of many of Australia's most respected environmentalists that one day the kangaroo industry will expand to the point were we will be able to produce our meat, in this land, from the animals that belong here rather than relying on introduced European animals like sheep and cattle which cause great damage to our fragile land.
