VISUAL ART

Various Visual Art Techniques:

Choose all, a selection or one of the following visual art activities to make a three dimensional model of a Kangaroo in your classroom...

  • Paper Mache
  • Clay
  • Salt ceramics
  • Origami
  • Plasticene
  • Plaster of Paris
  • Or why not use a selection of materials fresh from the environment?
  • Can you think of any more??!!

Face Masks

Create a zany collection of face masks - all in the shapes of Kangaroos! Fantastic for that masquerade social!!

Kangaroo Badges

Design and make some awesome Kangaroo badges. Make them outrageous but wearable. Encourage students to have a specific link with their Kangaroo design to a particular aspect of their personality. A fantastic activity for the start of the year, to help everyone learn any new names.

An Alternative Display

If you are lucky enough to have the space and opportunity, why not paint a class mural or model of a kangaroo farm? A great way to visually motivate students. A movable Kangaroo mural/farm would be a valuable asset to any school.

Foot Stamp

Create a Kangaroo stamp using half a potato. These can be used to acknowledge fantastic efforts throughout the unit, or as a tool to make a repeated, colourful pattern in younger classes.

Make a foot stamp showing the difference between the soft foot of a kangaroo and the hard foot of the sheep.

A Picture Book

Students can write some short stories about Kangaroos that they like. Introduce the idea of adding in some small pictures in place of some words to make it interesting for other people to read.

Mass Production!!

Ask each student to bring in a plain t-shirt from home. Experiment with screen printing to create some awesome new t-shirt designs. Older students can be responsible for creating their own unique designs. Younger students can choose from a selection of stencils, or be assisted in using their own designs. To pursue the idea further, you could consider looking at small business enterprises with in the school or community.
